Three Reasons Why Walking at the Custer Arts & Crafts Show Is Healthy

To keep your heart and the rest of your body healthy, medical researchers recommend that adults walk at least 10,000 steps per day. You do not have to walk quickly or run in order to achieve an ideal level of physical fitness; even just walking while browsing at the Custer Arts & Crafts festival this spring is a great way to get in some of those steps. With these tips from providers at a Spokane Valley urgent care center, you can help to keep your heart and your spirit healthy. Weight Maintenance Slow to moderate paced walking helps to maintain your weight. Walking is a weight-bearing exercise, which forces your muscles and bones to be strong. Exercising your muscles helps to burn more calories. Walking at a pace of about 3 miles per hour, such as if you would walk through the grocery store, burns around 200 calories per hour for a 180-pound adult.

Urgent Care Providers Share Prevention Tips for These Winter Illnesses

Your health is your wealth. While it’s important to keep your body in check throughout the entire year, the colder winter months of October through February are common seasonal illness culprits. Nothing hurts the wallet and life’s comforts like spending a few weeks sick on the couch, so it’s absolutely crucial to prevent as many winter illnesses as possible with help from urgent care providers. Fighting the Flu Workplaces and college campuses are notorious for spreading illness such as the flu, reason being that diseases spread quickest in areas where people are highest in concentration. Classrooms, cubicles, and bathrooms are the common hotbeds for influenza due to common face-to-face communication. Flu outbreaks usually occur when droplets of saliva are emitted and then transferred from coughing, sneezing, or even simply talking from person to person. Symptoms include joint pain, dry cough, congestion, and body chills.

Spokane Valley Urgent Care Watches Out for Bikers

Manito Park is one of the most visited locations in Spokane, Washington. It has wonderful trails that people can bike through, offering nature at its best. With manicured lawns, topiary, walking and biking trails in a peaceful area, and even playgrounds for children, this park has it all. If you are a biker, however, it is important to know how to safely use these trails. The Importance of Helmets Many people choose not to wear helmets when cycling, but there are a number of reasons why this can be the wrong decision. Most statistics point out that the most common injuries when it comes to using a bike are head injuries. Helmets can ensure that the chance of a concussion or a serious blow to the head will not occur.

Insect Bites and Urgent Care: What You Should Know About Black Flies

"Seeing flies on your food is disgusting enough; what more if they suck the blood out of you? You heard it right. Not all flies just buzz around, cowardly waiting for a chance to land on your food. Some actually bite and feed on the blood of both humans and animals. One such species that inhabit Spokane’s running streams and rivers are black flies. Black flies typically target the area around the eyes, scalp, and ears, and sometimes exposed arms and legs. According to the Spokane Regional Health District, these parasites tend to crawl into sleeves, neckbands, boot tops, and other areas, particularly the head beneath a hat. In order to suck blood, the black fly (female only) cuts a hole in the skin and injects an anti-coagulant for a smooth feeding. The bites are painful, itchy, and can cause swelling for many days, in which case visiting your local urgent care center in Spokane Valley may provide you relief."
