Insect Bites and Urgent Care: What You Should Know About Black Flies

"Seeing flies on your food is disgusting enough; what more if they suck the blood out of you? You heard it right. Not all flies just buzz around, cowardly waiting for a chance to land on your food. Some actually bite and feed on the blood of both humans and animals. One such species that inhabit Spokane’s running streams and rivers are black flies. Black flies typically target the area around the eyes, scalp, and ears, and sometimes exposed arms and legs. According to the Spokane Regional Health District, these parasites tend to crawl into sleeves, neckbands, boot tops, and other areas, particularly the head beneath a hat. In order to suck blood, the black fly (female only) cuts a hole in the skin and injects an anti-coagulant for a smooth feeding. The bites are painful, itchy, and can cause swelling for many days, in which case visiting your local urgent care center in Spokane Valley may provide you relief."

Spokane Valley Urgent Care: Weighing In on Common Household Allergens

In an effort to make the city cleaner and healthier for everyone, Spokane Valley officials initiated a street sweeping program for residential areas. It started early in March and will continue until May during weekdays from 7:00 AM until 5:00 PM. The program will certainly help in improving air quality in the city’s streets. However, the dust that would be lifted by sweepers can be problematic if people with allergies or asthma are exposed to it. Of course, outdoor dust won’t be the only culprit for a sudden flurry of allergy or asthma attacks this spring. There are also several everyday household allergens that can prompt these immune reactions. Learn more about those pesky triggers that are commonly dealt with by clinics providing urgent care in Spokane Valley.

Spokane Valley Urgent Care Provider on Managing Heartburn Episodes

Fortunately, heartburn is generally not considered an emergency, and most people can simply take over-the-counter medications to relieve their discomfort. There are also some things you can do to mitigate or avoid episodes altogether. These include eating more slowly, practicing portion control (no overeating), having dinner at least three hours before bedtime, and raising the top of your bed so your head and chest are higher than your feet. Of course, there are situations when home care will no longer suffice and visiting a Spokane Valley urgent care center becomes necessary. For example, if your symptoms don’t disappear after two weeks of medication, or if the medications you take do little to ease your pain, be sure to see a health professional. You’ll also need medical attention if you experience symptoms like chronic coughing or difficulty swallowing solid food, or if the heartburn aggravates your asthma attacks.

Spokane Valley Urgent Care Doctors Warn People of Heat Exhaustion

California becomes much warmer than Washington during the summer, but temperatures in Spokane can get pretty high as well. Doctors in a Spokane Valley urgent care center warn that you do not necessarily have to be engaged in strenuous activities like hiking to suffer from heat exhaustion. Even the simple act of attending to your garden could trigger a dangerous rise in your core body temperature. Common symptoms of heat exhaustion include nausea, dehydration, dizziness, headaches, muscle cramps, heart palpitations, and profuse sweating. If you experience these symptoms, take a break from your activities and enter a shaded and well-ventilated area, preferably an air-conditioned room. You should also adequately rehydrate with either water or a sports drink.
